The Adam Story

In October of 2008, we received a 7 month old baby boy who we named Adam. We had him for four months. He was removed from his birth mother's custody when he born due to her unstable mental health. It was our intention to adopt him, but the mother's aunt came forward and wanted him. Adam was placed with his aunt, a woman he had never met.

It's now June 2009 as I write this, and we have now been without Adam longer than we had him. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of him. I hope he's doing well. I hope likes his new name. I hope he's enjoying his new cousins. I hope, in the ultimate wisdom of the social workers, they made the best decision for the future of Adam.

Here is the story of Adam, from start to finish.

Hey, I found your blog through SITS. I can't even imagine going through that. I'm a social worker and worked in child welfare for a short while. It was reasons like this that I had to get out - I couldn't be a part of a system that existed to help (and in many ways did), but often caused so much pain in the process. Such life altering decisions for those sweet kiddos, and for the adults in their lives, too. I hope you feel good knowing that you provided him with stability and love for those months that you did have him - no one can ever take that time away - it will always be a part of who he is. Big hugs to you.

What a heartbreaking story- I can't even fathom having to go through it and come out okay. I hope he is healthy and happy. Thanks for sharing your story.
